Altenburg gardens, SW11, Battersea

Altenburg Gardens was an extension and refurbishment collaboration between Bloom Builders and Malone + Pike Architects and a great design team.

The project involved the comprehensive refurbishment of a Victorian terrace in Battersea, together with a new ground floor extension and a loft conversion to create additional living space.

The reworked ground floor plan opens the house towards the garden and introduces a more fluid arrangement of kitchen, dining and family spaces. Bespoke oak joinery anchors the interior and provides both warmth and tactility, while subtle detailing and a muted material palette allow the architecture to sit quietly around daily family life.

At upper levels, the loft conversion adds a generous principal suite with improved light and storage. Throughout the house, interventions are contemporary but respectful, retaining the character of the original fabric while meaningfully improving comfort, function and energy performance.

Delivered as a turnkey service, the project demonstrates Bloom’s strength in coordinating design, planning, construction and bespoke fabrication under one roof.
